WHO WE ARE
The Village Farmers Market Association (VFMA) is a local Lompoc, federally recognized 501(c)3, nonprofit corporation.
Our mission is to educate people, especially kids, about the importance of growing and eating organically grown food. To help with this mission, we sponsor a weekly farmer's market in Vandenberg Village and we have installed 6 raised-bed gardens at Buena Vista Elementary School to support our weekly after school Garden Club.
These gardens are used to teach children how and why to grow their own food, and the value of eating a healthy, nutrient rich diet. The Garden Club also teaches teamwork, hard work, leadership, and gives kids an excuse to get their hands dirty.
OTHER THINGS WE DO
- Sponsor and host the weekly Vandenberg Village Farmers Market
- Host lectures on benefits of eating local and organic, organic gardening, urban homesteading techniques, vermicomposting and ways to reduce waste
- Host FREE documentary screenings, which convey VFMA's core values
- Provide a conduit between farmers and consumers which supports local, and responsible food production
HOW YOU CAN HELP VFMA
The majority of these projects require funding above and beyond what the Board of Directors can contribute. Our goal is to help the local farmers make a livable wage, which in turn will be passed on to the consumer and spread throughout the local economy in wages, supplies, and services. VFMA has NO paid workers or board members, we rely 100% on volunteers.
WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO
Proceeds from Local Fest help support the Teaching Garden at the Lompoc Valley Community Youth Center on College Ave in Lompoc, CA. Below are some of the costs related to growing and maintaining the teaching garden:
